Waterpik:
Once your teeth are clean the goal then is to keep disease out of the mouth and help the gum tissue rejuvenate. I highly recommend the Waterpik Water Flosser for general oral health care for everyone but, especially after periodontal surgery. In addition to brushing and flossing the Waterpik is a great tool to help keep bacteria away from the gum-line and in between the teeth. Remember, your toothbrush can only reach about 60% of each tooth, the remaining 40% must be cleaned thoroughly or you risk tooth decay and periodontal disease.
How to use the Waterpik:
Concentrate the jet of the Waterpik between teeth for a count of 10. Be sure to aim the jet straight between the teeth – not at the gum tissue. Use the Waterpik twice a day. (Note: Start at the lowest pressure level and gradually work your way up, increasing the pressure every 3-4 days, until you reach the highest pressure level.)
Following these directions for the Waterpik will ensure that you are correctly using the device to help keep your gums healthy and clean.
I use a special recipe each time I use my waterpik to help reduce the bacteria load and I suggest you try it also especially if you are currently struggling with periodontal disease. The recipe is as follows: Combine a drop of Clorox per ounce of water, you can use as much as 1 capful of Clorox Bleach with a full reservoir of water in the Waterpik. The taste is reminiscent of the water in a swimming pool.
*Pro-Tip* Look for Lemon Scented Bleach as this will help ease the taste.
